Does this apply to you?
The GPSR acts as a safety net. The regulation applies to consumer products insofar as no specific European legislation already regulates the same risk.
Your product is not subject to CE marking
A bag, a kitchen accessory, furniture, or textiles. No marking, then, but a risk assessment, documentation, and information for your offering are still required.
Your product does have CE marking
In that case, the GPSR continues to apply to risks not covered by specific legislation. The two are not mutually exclusive; they apply side by side.
You sell under your own brand
Legally, you are then the manufacturer, even if the factory is in Asia. If you only purchase from outside the EU, you are the importer and thus the responsible economic operator.

What does a GPSR process cost?
The GPSR charges per product, so the number of items is the main factor. Additionally, it depends on whether your supplier can already provide substantiation and whether testing is still required. One product with usable documentation is a different process than fifty items from three factories. Products that are technically identical and only differ in color or size are assessed together. You receive a fixed price upfront, so there is no hourly billing.
How long does it take?
For a defined number of products, this usually takes a few weeks. We handle the scope and risk assessment; the wait is usually for your supplier to provide documents. If testing is required, the waiting time at the laboratory determines the pace.
Can I do this myself?
Legally, that is permitted. The question is what it costs you in terms of time and risk. Determining the scope and drafting a risk assessment that holds up requires knowledge of the regulation and the underlying standards. What we see in practice: a file exists, but it does not cover what is actually being sold.
My product has CE marking. Does the GPSR also apply?
Yes, for the aspects not covered by specific legislation. The two apply side by side. In our article on the GPSR, you can read exactly how that safety net works.
Bol or Amazon is asking for GPSR data. Can you resolve this?
Yes, that is the reason most entrepreneurs come to us. A platform wants to see the manufacturer’s name and address, an EU responsible person, the product identification, and the warnings for every listing. We provide that data plus the underlying substantiation, so it does not remain a box-ticking exercise that fails at the first inspection.
My supplier says the product already complies. Is that enough?
Rarely. If you sell under your own brand, you are the manufacturer by law and the file must be yours, not the factory’s. Test reports from your supplier are often usable, but they must concern the correct standard and the correct version. We check what you already have and only supplement what is missing.
