Does CE marking apply to your product?

CE is not a quality mark that you can apply for. It is a declaration that you issue yourself as soon as your product falls under one of the European directives.

    When it applies

It runs on electricity or a battery

From a food processor to a power bank. Depending on the voltage and function, the Low Voltage Directive, the EMC Directive, or the Radio Equipment Directive apply, often two simultaneously.

It has moving parts with a drive system

Machines fall under the Machinery Regulation. From January 20, 2027, Regulation 2023/1230 will replace the old directive, with stricter requirements for software and maintenance.

It is a toy or protective equipment

Toys and personal protective equipment have their own regime with specific standards. Certain categories also require the involvement of a notified body.

    How the process works

A wrong assumption in step 1 affects everything up to the declaration. Therefore, the sequence is fixed.

    01

    Determine the correct legislation

    We

We investigate the nature, purpose, and sector of your product and determine which directives or regulations apply. The essential requirements differ per legislation, so everything thereafter depends on this step.

    02

    Select the harmonized standards

    We

We identify the standards that fulfill the technical requirements for your product. If you comply with them, you are presumed to comply with the law. That saves discussion and work.

    03

    Mapping requirements and risk analysis

    We

We list all legal requirements and perform the risk assessment. We also check whether other legislation applies alongside CE requirements, such as RoHS or the Battery Regulation.

    04

    Have your product tested

    We test in-house

We have our own laboratory in China, close to where your product is manufactured. This saves shipping time and costs. The test report is usually available within ten working days.

    05

    Compile the technical file

    We

We bundle the design, construction, operation, test results, and certificates into a file that a regulator can follow. You must keep it for ten years.

    06

    Marking and declaration of conformity

    You sign

You apply the CE marking and sign the declaration of conformity. By doing so, you as the manufacturer declare that the product complies. Your product may enter the market.

Not just a test report in a folder. A file that holds up.

At the end, there is a risk analysis, the test reports from our own lab, the complete technical file, and the declaration of conformity that you sign. Together, they are the evidence that a regulator can follow, from the first requirement to the last measurement.

What you do yourself: send the product and pass on what you have received from your supplier. We handle the rest.

You will know the cost tomorrow.

What needs to be done is the work itself. The proposal with the fixed price and the lead time will be ready within 24 hours.

Frequently asked questions about CE marking

Is your question not listed? Call or email us.

My supplier says the product is already CE. Is that enough?

Almost never. A CE marking on the box or a test report from the factory is not a file. The law requires evidence that a regulator can follow: which directives apply, which standards were used, which risks were assessed, and which measurements support that. As soon as your brand is on the product, you are the one who must be able to show this, not the factory.

What do I need to provide myself?

The product and whatever you have received from your supplier: drawings, specifications, previous test reports. If anything is missing, we will request it from the factory. You don’t have to do the investigative work.

How long does a process take?

The test report is usually ready within ten working days because our laboratory is located near the factory. How long the entire process takes depends on the product and how quickly the factory delivers. That lead time is stated in the quote, along with the price.

    What does CE marking cost?

That depends on the product and how much legislation applies to it. You receive a fixed price upfront, no hourly rate and no subsequent costing. You can read about the cost items in the article on what CE marking costs.

What happens if I sell without a valid file?

The regulator can stop sales and have the product removed from the market. Marketplaces also now ask for it and remove listings without a file. And if something goes wrong with the product, you are the one who must demonstrate that you have done it correctly.

Does CE marking actually apply to my product?

For many product groups, it does: electronics, machines, toys, and protective equipment. For textiles, furniture, and food, it does not. The only way to be sure is by determining the scope. That is the first step of the process.

    More than CE marking

If your product falls outside CE or if more is involved, we handle that within the same process.
