SCIP, from substance list to notification handled.
Articles containing a substance of very high concern above 0.1 percent must be in the ECHA database. We analyze your test reports, measure what is missing, and submit the notification per article.
Does this apply to you?
SCIP is linked to the Candidate List of substances of very high concern. If such a substance exceeds 0.1 percent by weight in an article you place on the EU market, the notification obligation applies.
Your product contains a substance from the Candidate List
Consider plasticizers in cables, lead in brass, chromium in coatings, or flame retardants in plastic. The 0.1 percent threshold applies per article, not per product as a whole.
You import articles from a third country
In that case, you are the one placing them on the EU market and therefore the one responsible for notification. Your supplier outside the EU does not have this obligation.
A customer asks for your SCIP number
Buyers in construction, industry, and retail check for this before onboarding you. Without a number, you will be disqualified, even if the product itself is compliant.
You provide the bill of materials, we do the rest
The substantiation comes from test reports and the structure comes from ECHA. We take that work off your hands. What is required from you fits into a single line.
review your bill of materials and determine which components may contain a substance from the Candidate List.
analyze your product's test reports and determine per article whether a substance exceeds the 0.1 percent threshold.
test in our own laboratory what existing reports do not show, ensuring no assumptions enter the dossier.
translate the outcome into the structure required by ECHA and perform the notification per article.
provide you with the SCIP number plus the substantiation on which the notification is based, so you can pass it on to whoever requests it.
provide what you have: your bill of materials, existing test reports, and the article numbers you sell in the EU. That is all there is to it.
No separate emails. One notification that is in place.
It includes the analysis per article, the test reports on which the outcome is based, the notification itself with the SCIP number, and the overview of what has been notified.
If a customer or a regulator asks for the number, you simply forward it. Backed by measurement, not an assumption.
Would you like to know the cost of notification for your product range?
Send us your bill of materials or your article numbers. Within 24 hours, you will receive a price indication, including the articles contained within.
Frequently asked questions about SCIP
The questions entrepreneurs ask us most frequently about this. Is your question not listed? Call or email us.
What does a SCIP notification cost?
We charge per article, as that is the unit in which ECHA reports. A product consisting of twenty components can result in multiple notifications. If testing is required, this is charged separately. You will receive a fixed price upfront.
My supplier does not provide material data. What then?
Then we measure it. We first analyze existing reports and test in our own laboratory what is missing. This way, your notification does not depend on a non-responsive supplier.
Does this also apply if I only sell to consumers?
If you sell exclusively as a store to consumers and do not import anything yourself, you are exempt from notification. If you do import, the notification obligation applies as usual, even if your customers are consumers.
How often does the Candidate List change?
Usually twice a year. A product that falls outside the list today could fall under it in six months without you changing anything about the product. If you have it re-evaluated, we can see if your products are affected.
How long does it take?
If the reports are available, notification is a matter of days. If measurements are required, the laboratory’s lead time determines the pace.
Can I do this myself?
Legally, you are allowed to. In practice, it often stalls on two points: determining what counts as an article and proving what is in it. The former is research, the latter is measurement. We do both.
